Spring & Summer Product Guide

Natural alternatives to sun protection, bug repellent and hay fever relief.

The warmer seasons of Spring & Summer bring with them the gift of longer daylight hours, (hopefully) nicer weather and more opportunities to get out and about in nature. Picnics, BBQ's (always food first with me), long walks, wild swimming (if that is your thing), grounding, holidays and outdoor events. There is so much we can enjoy and look forward to.

However they also bring with them some less welcome situations such as sunburn, bugs and many humans nemesis hay fever. Trying to protect ourselves from these can lead to us exposing ourselves and our loved ones (not forgetting our planet) to unknown increased toxic load. Over burdening our bodies lymphatic system and leading to potentially harmful results.

Our environment is one of the Vagina Truth Bomb 5 Foundations of Health & Wellbeing. I believe that keeping our environment as clean as possible is key to health longevity. But it is not easy, with so much toxic rubbish being promoted by the big companies. Combined with green washing, it can be hard to find appropriate products. Over the years I have searched for easy, safe and effective remedies, which I have found and am sharing with you in this guide.

🌞Sun Protection & 🟤Tanning:

Tropic is my go to for sun protection, it is the only one I have found that doesn't make me feel like I need a shower as soon as I put it on. It is non greasy and a bottle lasts a decent time. I also love that it provides factor 50 protection.

I use Sun Day, facial UV defence everyday on my face along with lip shade...regardless of the weather, I head out on my daily dog walk adventure fully protected. They also do a slightly tinted version.

They offer two options for full body protection. Personally, I use their Great Barrier Sun Lotion. Those with fairer or more sensitive skin would suit Skin Shade Sun Cream. Both are made with non- toxic, vegan and ocean friendly ingredients.

Tropic also offers some fabulous tanning options for the face and body. You can explore all of Tropic's sun care and tanning range via the button below, which will take you to my Tropic shop.

✨Amy's Top Tip: Add a drop of dōTERRA citronella essential oil or TerraShield® Outdoor Blend to your sun lotion (on your body) for added bug repellent.

🐝Buzz Off: Bug Repellent!

Midges, flies, ticks and wasps can invade and ruin any outdoor experience, especially if food is involved. Essential oils are a great way to repel them without the concerning side effect found in alternative methods.

❗ Please ensure you are protecting you and your family from tick-borne diseases such as Lyme disease. These can have devastating impacts on your health...trust me I have been there!

My go to are citronella essential oil as well dōTERRA TerraShield® Outdoor Blend. Neal's Yard also offer a ready to use citronella spray.

These oils can be used in a variety of different ways:

  • Diffuse - DōTERRA Roam diffuser is cordless so perfect for transition to outdoor dining etc.

  • Add to lava stones (or other essential oil appropriate) jewellery

  • Add a drop to your body via a carrier oil, moisturiser or sun lotion.

  • Add drops to a clay diffuser or lava rock and place near problem areas such as fruit bowls and kitchen food waste caddy.

  • Create a spray and clean high fly traffic areas such as windows and workshops.

  • Spray onto skin or clothing (be mindful of potential staining and avoid eyes and mouth)

✨Amy's Top Tip: I use these products on my dogs as well. Personally I do not use flea or tick treatment as I find them ridiculously expensive and the potential side effect listed too risky for my dogs health. My dogs also have seasonal allergies so I use essential oils to support them too.

🤧 Allergies & Hay Fever:

Lemon, lavender and peppermint essential oils are the magic combination when it comes to any kind of allergies. dōTERRA TriEase® Seasonal Blend is a combination of these three oils.

  • Ingest with a vegi cap or use TriEase® Seasonal Blend softgels. Personally I take one softgel every morning throughout hay fever season, regardless of the pollen levels. I take an additional one in the evening if I feel I need it.

  • 15ml spray bottle with 10 drops of each - top up with water. Be mindful of staining on material. You can spray your chest and bedding for example.

  • Diffuse 10 drops of each throughout the day and night.

I have found that Neal's Yards White Tea products really help to stop my eyes from itching. I use their Reviving White Eye Gel everyday of the hay fever seasons regardless of pollen level, and spray my face with the Reviving White Tea Facial Mist throughout the day. It is the only thing I have found to prevent my eyes itching.

✨Amy's Top Tip: Tropic Tamanu Balm is currently my go to for insect bites as well as scratch and stings from plants! I also rub it around my nostrils and over my eyes when pollen is HIGH! It has also helped me sooth sunburn. Yes you can use it on the dogs too. It is a really handy multi-use pot of natural healing magic!
